“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” – Albert Einstein
I know a goldfish will never grasp the concept of quantum physics or even that their so called ‘world’ is no more than a table decoration. But even with a memory of three seconds, human beings, regardless if three or thirty years of age, could learn a few things about perspective from our wide eyed friends.
Through meditation mastery, a gift or even call it a biological fault. The goldfish has evolved or devolved to understand the importance and art of mindfulness. While it’s easy to make the claim you also would have no other choice but to swim down a similar path if left in an unchanging environment. We need to stop, don’t take a breath and consider if instead of water, we live the majority of our daily lives submerged constant thought and a flux of different emotions.
The fears we swim in may be just as limiting to our freedom as the fish who watches without stopping to question, will the cat eat me or will I be flushed down the toilet by a troubled child. Or perhaps they just realised the pointlessness of the thought when they are powerless to change their situation. It might actually be a far from stupid idea to put all their focus doing as many pointless circles as possible or any other maneuvers their limited space allows, before they go up for their final breath of air.
This gives a new meaning to living life on the edge, regardless of where you are positioned on the turning tables of life. Don’t drown yourself in that which you can’t change. Know your abilities in terms of what you can change. Don’t think too much about the past or the future. Make the most of what you have now as one day, Noah’s floods or toilet water. It might all be flushed away.
Very wise words.
If just 1 person out the 6 Billion on the planet reads my blog then to me it is all worth while. Thanks!
