Last weekend I took part in one of Sydney’s most iconic events –  it’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade!

The term Mardi Gras actually has different meanings around the world, but it seems regardless of where you celebrate it, you’re guaranteed a party. And what a party. This was the most fun I’ve had running the streets since Songkran in Thailand (a city-wide water fight).

I hadn’t previously seen much footage of Mardi Gras, but I knew enough to expect skin, lights, music, outrageous costume, and more skin.  But what made the experience so special was being part of all that excitement.

The crowd overflowed with energy, making the previous 5 hours I spent waiting around feel like 5 minutes. The other parade participants glowed with good vibes and were happy to elaborate on what the parade meant to them.

The fact that I’m heterosexual was irrelevant; the fact I’m no longer ripped as I once was, didn’t even stir much of a concern. (At my most obsessed, I used to diet for festivals).

The parade was all about celebrating diversity in all its forms and the one thing we all have in common – a desire to be loved.

Check out the video below.
